The new Pontiac Transportation Center, opened for business on August 8, 2011, will the be the site for our March 17 meeting. The intermodal station serves Greyhound and Amtrak passengers and is a hub for mass transit, including six daily Amtrak Wolverine Service trains to and from Detroit and Chicago. Local transit provider SMART stops on Woodward Avenue just outside the station. Amtrak train #353 departs at 10:40 amd and the general meeing will convene shortly thereafter.

Jim Fetzer, Deputy General Manger of Operations for the SMART bus system which provides transportation for Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties, will talk with us about how SMART connects with Amtrak stations along the Wolverine route north of Detroit. He will also have updates on the regional rapid bus initiative that has come to the fore following the withdrawal of federal support for the proposed Woodward Light Rail.

Following the business meeting, we will enjoy our usual no-host lunch at Little Daddy’s Family Restaurant, 39500 Woodward Avenue, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304.

The Executive Committee will re-convene after lunch at the Pontiac Public Library.
